" Of the students involved in the festival, the UCSB Film and Media Studies Department publicized the work of a number of individuals. The list included Michael Weinreich, who worked on “A Wake on the Pier.” The documentary about locals in Santa Barbara coming together to erect a temporary monument at Stearn’s Wharf dedicated to soldiers who died fighting in Iraq was very different from Weinreich’s film “Sister Mary Catherine’s Happy Fun-Time Abortion Adventure” - a comedic black and white silent film about a nun who has an abortion. " In case you missed last year’s Reel Loud Film Festival, make sure you take this opportunity to see the movie that is quite possibly one of the funniest films to come out of UCSB in years, “Sister Mary Catherine’s Happy Fun-Time Abortion Adventure.” This film, about exactly what its title implies, is a wild romp with enough political incorrectness to make Bill Maher blush. “Sister Mary Catherine’s Happy Fun-Time Abortion Adventure” is part of a program of local student shorts playing at 6 p.m. at the Marjorie Luke Theater. " There is only one word to describe this film, about a Catholic nun who gets pregnant and must embark on a journey to obtain an abortion while avoiding an anti-abortion sniper - BRILLIANT.

“Sister Mary Catherine’s Happy Fun-Time Abortion Adventure” is one of the few Reel Loud films to have a coherent, cohesive plot with a clear beginning, middle and end. And, boy is it a plot.

The film is imaginatively constructed, with the perfect balance of comical devices - a wind-up nun toy makes the journey from America to Mexico at one point in the film - and professional-looking cinematography, lighting and costumes.

Ultimately, “Sister Mary Catherine’s Happy Fun-Time Abortion Adventure” is a rollicking romp of comedy and creativity that was a perfect finish to the festival’s film portion. "
