Thomas J. Scheff is Professor Emeritus of Sociology, University of California, Santa Barbara. He is a former Chair of the section on the Sociology of Emotions, American Sociological Association, and President of the Pacific Sociological Association. His fields of research are social psychology, emotions, mental illness, and new approaches to integrating theory & method. He is author of many books and articles, including Goffman Unbound (2006).
